2019 is halfway through, and just like every other year, the second half of the year (for me, at least) seems to go by much quicker than the first! Thankfully summertime tends to help us get in the mindset of slowing down – at least a little – from the busyness of life.
It can also be a great opportunity for a “time-out” for your business. I recommend this to the business owners we work with – and I’m walking my talk.
Last week, I was able to get away for a few days over the long holiday weekend to refresh and renew myself personally. I also made some time to revisit how my business is doing and look ahead to what the second half of the year holds. I revisited the book Traction by Gino Wickman which is a must-read for any business, went paddle boarding on the lake, enjoyed some time with family and friends, and set aside a couple of hours each day to think about my business.
If you’re also yearning for a little “time-out” to work on your own business, here are some key objectives that can shape how the rest of 2019 plays out for your company.
Review what has and hasn’t worked so far.
Take a look at how your business is running – including processes, employee productivity, client acquisition/retention – and check the pulse. Are there additional areas for improvement? Take note of what isn’t working so you can analyze those areas for improvement and reevaluate strategies and tactics to get your business back on track and operating smoothly.
Revisit and refresh your goals for the rest of the year.
Are your 2019 annual projections on target, or do you need to pick up the pace a bit? Halfway through the year is an opportune time to evaluate your current strategies. Now is a perfect time to revisit and refresh your goals for the balance of the year. You may need to pivot on some, and others may just need a little more focus. The attention you give to your goals mid-year helps you concentrate on what changes need to be made to get your business moving in the right direction.
Think big.
2020 will be here before we know it! Have you thought about what you want to accomplish in the next year, or even 5 years down the road? Are you still on track with your strategic objectives? If not, this is an opportune time to think big about your company’s future and start paving the way to reach those goals. Take some time to envision where you want your company to be and how you can turn those thoughts into reality.
